LET US PRAY . . .

God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every  good cause. - 2 Corinthians 9:8 (TEV)

Prayer Family for the week:  Allene Lewis

*Teresa Burns requests prayers for her niece, Barbara Salcido, who had surgery today (5/10) for a ruptured appendix; infection was serious.  Please keep her in your prayers.  Please pray that all the infection is gone.  (5/10/08)  UPDATE 5/13/08 from Teresa:  Barbara is doing better but still cannot even keep fluid down.  She will remain in the hospital until she can eat solid food.  Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

*Prayers are requested for David Green, Edna Harwell's son-in-law, and his wife Kay.  David's cancer has returned and is in his bone marrow.  The cells are 10% marrow.  He is facing a bone marrow transplant at Vanderbilt.  His marrow that was harvested earlier cannot be used due to this finding so Vanderbilt is looking for a donor.  Please continue to remember them as they face the days ahead.  (4/23/08)  UPDATE 5/11/08:  One bone marrow donor has been found.  Two more are needed before the transplant procedure can be done.  UPDATE from Edna 5/12/08:  Kay and David went to Nashville today to see his doctor.  David was admitted to Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for more chemotherapy to prepare him for the bone marrow transplant. The chemo was started today at 5 p.m. and will take about 7 days.  His room number is 3318 and phone 615-342-3318.  Thank you to all who continue to remember them in your prayers.

*Please pray for Chris Shrader, Amy Vosburgh's boyfriend.  He is undergoing surgery this afternoon at Huntsville Hospital to reinsert a medicated rod into his leg because of recurring infection.  Chris was seriously injured in an automobile accident on April 16, 2007, and has not yet returned to work.  This rod, which periodically releases antibiotics into his leg, was first inserted in early January and remained in place until late February.  Unfortunately, doctors informed him last week that the procedure would have to be repeated. (4/1/08 G. Vosburgh)   UPDATE 4/2/08:  The surgery was successful, and Chris is being released from the hospital today, but doctors will monitor the effectiveness of the procedure over the next several weeks.  UPDATE 4/27/08:  Chris is doing well.  He hopes to return to work June 2.

*Please continue to pray for Mary Wade Johnson while she is recuperating from a fall.  (3/31/08)

*Please pray for Helen Bowin's youngest daughter Christy.   (Helen is Teresa Burns' grandmother.)  Christy had surgery for cancer in the lymph nodes in her leg/groin area the end of February.  Doctors felt they had gotten all the cancer; however, it has now appeared in two new places, one of which will be aggressively treated.  The good news is there is no cancer in the blood marrow.  Helen asks that we please continue to pray for them.  (3/30/08)  UPDATE 4/15/08 from Helen:  Reports on Christy this week are encouraging.  She had three treatments with no side effects except fatigue.  We are so grateful for that.  She has three hour sessions weekly receiving white cells into her system.  Then she will have more chemo at the end of April.  Your prayers are felt.  Thank you.  UPDATE 4/17/08:  Christy has received a treatment to increase her white cells.  She feels pretty good and isn't scheduled for another chemo treatment until next week.  (Teresa Burns)

*Prayers are requested for Mary Toby Speer Perkins (Dan Speer's sister).  She will be taking chemotherapy this week at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston.  (12/10/07)  UPDATE:  Mary Toby finished her first round of treatments on December 16.  UPDATE 2/5/08:  Mary Toby's oncologist considers the cancer stabilized and recommends two more cycles in hope of tumor shrinkage.    UPDATE 3/8/08:  The tumors in Mary Toby's chest cavity and rib cage have grown.  There are new cysts on the liver and a suspect tumor on the pancreas.  She will not be receiving IL2.  There are other viable options for treatment.  Right now they are waiting to see the Kidney Oncologist.

*Prayers are requested for Madolyn Hamlett's brother, Sam Muse.  Sam lost his lower leg to diabetes and continues to have other problems related to his diabetes.  Continued prayers are requested.

*Georgeanne Blackburn requests prayers for her granddaughter Ellie who continues to battle (with God's help) Ewing Sarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer.

*Prayers of thanksgiving for the ministry of Robert Montgomery and for guidance as he shepherds the sheep of First Presbyterian Church.  Let us also continue to pray God's guidance for the session and the congregation.

*Please be faithful in praying for the Youth of our church.  With thanksgiving, remember all who work in this ministry.

*Include these in your prayers this week, please:

*Please pray for those who have special needs and concerns.

. . . PRAYER OF CONFESSION. . .

Lord of all the earth, by your Spirit you have created us in your image, male and female, and breathed life into our mortal bodies.  Forgive us for grieving you with our sins of forgetfulness and selfishness. We imagine that we can make our own way in this world.  We are tempted to believe we are all on our own.  By the Spirit of Jesus Christ, re-create our lives for life with you.  Create in us a clean heart and a pure mind.  Renew us in the image of Jesus Christ, who loved us and has poured out the Holy Spirit in our hearts and in our world.  Amen.
